Nationals MP Keith Pitt says his party will bring a nuclear power “mandate” to the next federal election after Queensland’s incoming premier, David Crisafulli, says it’s not part of his plan. The LNP will form government in Queensland, but it did not include nuclear power in its policies for re-election, which is at odds with the federal Liberal party’s plans.
“I don’t want to get into the details of how it may or may not happen … But Australia needs affordable and reliable power,” Pitt said on ABC’s Insiders. Crisafulli’s platform supports a 75 per cent emissions reduction by 2035. Pitt said he thought that was “quite a challenge”. He congratulated Crisafulli and his team for forming government. “I also want to acknowledge the service of Steven Miles and Cameron Dick and the Labor members who lost their seats.
