Already a subscriber?Queensland’s infrastructure spend has blown out to $107 billion after the state Labor government flagged project cost increases totalling $2.1 billion.on Friday revealed its investment into major projects over the next four years, dubbed the “big build”, rose from $89 billion – an increase of $18 billion.

The motorway linking Brisbane’s south with the Gold Coast, the Coomera Connector, by more than $800 million;the Varsity Lakes to Tugun motorway by $500 million;These cost increases and significant spends on housing and youth crime – two major issues plaguing the Labor government’s prospects of re-election in late October – have resulted in state finances swinging from a previously expected surplus to deficit.

“Since taking on this role in December last year, I’ve made it a priority to keep Queenslanders informed, to be really transparent about cost pressures when our projects are facing them going forward,” Mr Mellish said.
