Queensland is getting an early taste of summer, with parts of the state set to experience temperatures nearly 10 degrees above average this week.Coastal areas are expected to escape the worst of the heatTowns in the state's west, including Mount Isa and Longreach, are forecast to hit 42 degrees on Wednesday.
"Ten degrees above average is pretty indicative of how uncommon it is," senior meteorologist Kimba Wong said. The heat is expected to drive people towards the Thomson River and the Outback Watersports Club, with activities such as waterskiing, kneeboarding, wakeboarding and tubing on offer."We're very lucky in Longreach to have the Thomson River and also some other little waterholes around the area," he said."It's also just good to get out of town and be in nature and have a bit of fun.
"If we don't get rain, I think it's pretty obvious that we will at some point have to move to more strict water restrictions," Cr Vonhoff said.Dam modelling shows Brisbane region could face water restrictions next year if dry conditions continue
