Tiaro SES leader Warren Smith says there has been 75 calls for help between Gympie and Bundaberg in the past two days. Rescue crews arrived to find two women in the tray of a ute trapped in rising floodwaters and helped them to safety. State Emergency Service director of operations Glen Alderton said crews had received about 200 calls for help in areas including south-east Queensland, Cairns, Townsville and the Whitsundays in the past 48 hours. The speed of the rising waters in some areas shocked long-time residents, who realized they had just minutes to act. Greg Hunt lives in a Nanango caravan park, and had little idea he was in danger until it was almost too late. 'Someone banged on the side of my bus and said, 'Think you better move your bus, mate,'' he told 612 ABC Brisbane. 'Within 10 minutes, had risen to about two and a half feet … I went to jump in me bus to get out of there, and the bus wouldn't start. Mr Hunt said belongings outside the bus such as chairs, cables and clothes were washed away and ended up being caught in a wire fence. He said around 10 other older people at the caravan park were also affected by flooding and were helped by other residents.
