A Queensland girl is enduring months of painful recovery after she became “wrapped” in melted plastic when a “cheap and nasty” clothing item she was wearing caught fire. Daniella Jacobs-Herd, 8, was with family and friends on her Walliebum property, in the Fraser Coast region, when a gust of wind blew flames from a bonfire onto her on the night of July 13, her mother Hannah Jacobs said.
” Daniella was taken to Hervey Bay Hospital but was immediately flown to Queensland Children’s Hospital in Brisbane for surgery early the following day. She has undergone multiple surgeries, including a major procedure for skin grafts, for third-degree burns to 13 per cent of her body. She will need further surgeries and ongoing treatment, Jacobs said. “She’s going to need grafts and plastic surgery. She has quite significant burns on her right chest,” she said.
