Deaths by suicide of patients in mental health facilities are nationally reportable adverse patient safety events that should be preventable. The Queensland branch of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists has called for major upgrades to public mental health facilities in Queensland's south-east — which would potentially cost hundreds of millions of dollars.Opposition Leader David Crisafulli said if he were elected in the state's upcoming election in October, he would create better transparency around the mental health levy scheme.
