"They're on fat margins, and they take these seats for granted. We need strong local champions, and that is what we have in these Labor candidates."Tamika Hicks, who has worked in the early childhood sector for over 20 years, has been chosen by the Labor Party to run against Opposition Leader David Crisafulli for the seat of Broadwater.
"A lot of people are concerned that they're not being represented and that they're not being listened to," she said.Sophie Lynch, a lawyer, and industrial officer for the United Firefighters Union of Queensland, is another Labor candidate selected for a safe Liberal seat: Mudgeeraba.Former infantry soldier for the Australian Army Nathan Fleury will run against MP Laura Gerber for the seat of Currumbin.
"My job has always been to go out and ask questions and listen, and I'm so excited to be able to do that and meet everyone in the community," she said.Meanwhile, Ms Scanlon's LNP challenger for the seat of Gaven — which she holds by a margin of 7.8 per cent — is former reporter Bianca Stone.
