The politician vying for Queensland's top job said she will trial curfews for youths in North Queensland if she comes into power at the state's upcoming election.
LNP Queensland Leader Deb Frecklington said the party would impose an 8pm curfew for kids aged under 14 and a 10pm curfew for youths aged between 15 to 17 in Townsville and Cairns. The policy is part of a range of new law and order initiatives unveiled by the party this morning, which also included a pledge to boost more police numbers and to bring back breach of bail as an offence for juveniles.
Speaking in Townsville, Ms Frecklington leader said rising crime meant drastic action needed to be taken."This is about making sure parents become responsible for their children," she said. The party would need to pass new laws through parliament to give police the ability to enforce the rules.
