Queensland Police breaks silence on knifeman Joel Cauchi's fatal rampage and revealed the man had never been arrested in Queensland.Queensland Police are addressing the media about Joel Cauchi's fatal rampage and have revealed the man had never been arrested in Queensland despite prior"police contact" over the span of about four or five years.

"He has been in contact with the police primarily in the last four to five years would be the most contact we’ve had with them. During that contact we are aware that this individual has suffered from mental health. "Last contact we had with him was in December 2023 where he was street checked on the Gold Coast," Mr Lowe said.

Asked whether Cauchi had a history of domestic violence in Queensland, Mr Lowe confirmed the knifeman had no record in the courts for a domestic violence order. "The state coroner will look at interactions not just with the police but all other agencies… the public expects the police and coroner to look at ‘was this event preventable’, ‘was there any systemic issue that contributed to this’," he said.
