Queensland Premier Steven Miles has claimed his Liberal National Party opponent David Crisafulli would not hold a plebiscite on nuclear, despite his opposition to the federal opposition’s nuclear policy.
Queensland Premier Steven Miles repeats promise to block federal opposition’s nuclear plans ahead of state election
Mr Dutton and the opposition have expressed an intention to build seven nuclear power plants and two small modular reactors – with several sites located in the sunshine state. The Queensland Premier told reporters on Monday: “The existing laws outlaw nuclear reactors and also require a plebiscite.” “What Queenslanders can know is that I will fight tooth and nail to block Peter Dutton’s plan for nuclear reactors because it is more expensive and will come too late,” Mr Miles said.
Despite pressure from the federal opposition, the Queensland LNP leader has consistently opposed nuclear plans for Queensland ahead of the state election on 26 October.
