Queensland Chief Health Officer Dr John Gerrard says around 75 per cent of cases being recorded are the Omicron variant – with 714 new COVID cases in the past 24 hours.

“About 75 per cent of the of the viruses we’re seeing are the Omicron strain, so we’re stable at that percentage – around 75 per cent Omicron, about per cent Delta,” Mr Gerrard said during a media conference on Sunday.

“In terms of testing, there were 29,918 tests completed yesterday and I really want to thank everybody who came out on Christmas Day to get tested in the warm weather.”
