A Brisbane court heard Theo Fewquandie, 19, was on bail and likely affected by methamphetamine during the incident, which took place at the Buranda Village shopping centre in January last year. The court heard Fewquandie had been hospitalised the day before after injecting large quantities of the drug, and had assaulted a security guard in the hospital by spitting on him.
The teen took off while the woman struggled to escape from the car, getting caught in the passenger seat belt. CCTV footage of the incident was played to the court, showing Edara being dragged along the road as Fewquandie tore through the carpark. The woman was dragged hundreds of metres leaving her with permanent scarring.
"I thought for sure if someone doesn't stop him she was going to die," Joe Lancaster told 9News at the time.He then fled the scene. He was arrested hours later. Edara is now permanently disfigured and was treated for burns to a third of her body after the incident.Fewquandie was sentenced to five years in jail for multiple charges but will be eligible for parole in September due to time already served.
