A 25-year-old Queensland vet was one of two Australians on a ship, carrying thousands of cattle, that capsized off the coast of Japan.
"It’s tragic, you know, not only the loss of him but the family left behind," said Mount Isa Catholic priest Father Michael Lowcock, who knew Mr Orda when he was a school student and has been in contact with the Orda family."He has a wife and six-month-old baby left behind, he would have only been 26 on the 25th of November"."Obviously he’s got this good gig, what he thought was a good gig," he said.
The Japanese Coast Guard said it had rescued one crew member, Sareno Edvarodo, a 45-year-old chief officer from the Philippines. The New Zealand Ministry for Primary Industries said it had temporarily suspended live cattle export applications after the Gulf Livestock 1 went missing, Reuters reported.
