A 34-year-old woman from Queensland is facing serious charges after allegedly poisoning her one-year-old daughter with unnecessary medications to gain social media followers and solicit donations. Police allege the woman used the child's suffering for online notoriety and financial gain.

A 34-year-old woman from Queensland appeared in the Brisbane Magistrates Court facing charges related to the alleged poisoning of her one-year-old daughter. Police claim the woman administered unnecessary medications to the child between August and October 2024 in an attempt to grow her social media presence and garner financial donations.

The woman is accused of five counts of administering poison with intent to harm, three counts of preparation to commit crimes with dangerous things, one count each of torture, making child exploitation material, and fraud. Her lawyer, Mathew Cuskelly, requested a pre-brief of evidence, including CCTV footage and bank records, as well as a video recording of an electroencephalogram (EEG) device used to assess the child's neurological condition. Cuskelly also sought protective custody for his client due to the significant media attention surrounding the case. Police allege that the hospital staff alerted them to the situation when the child was admitted with a serious medical condition. Upon investigation, they found unauthorized prescription drugs in the child's system. The woman is accused of disregarding medical advice and obtaining unauthorized medications, including old medications belonging to someone else, to administer to the child. She is also alleged to have filmed and posted videos of the child on social media while she was in distress and pain. Police believe the woman aimed to increase her social media profile and views to receive financial benefits through GoFundMe pages, allegedly fraudulently obtaining $60,000 in donations. GoFundMe is currently reimbursing donors and police intend to seek restitution from the woman should she be convicted
