Queenslanders are being urged to stay indoors and check on family, friends and neighbours, as heatwave conditions are forecast to increase in parts of the state. Queensland Health on Thursday issued an emergency heatwave health warning, ominously saying it was in relation to “an increase to heatwave conditions earlier in the week”. “Extreme heatwave conditions have reached a severity that may pose a health risk to parts of northwest, central and southeast Queensland,” Queensland Health said.

“A large part of the state is being impacted by low to severe heatwave conditions,” the state health body said. “This includes areas in the broader Brisbane metropolitan area and in and around areas of Charleville, Dalby, Goondiwindi, Longreach, Roma, Stanthorpe, Toowoomba and Winton.
