The Seven Network has begun responding to allegations by a former producer about their pursuit of the former Liberal staffer in the Federal Court.
Lawyers for the Seven Network have produced a "confined number of documents" in response to allegations about their pursuit of Bruce Lehrmann for an interview on the Spotlight Program.
The hearings in Mr Lehrmann's defamation case against Network Ten and journalist Lisa Wilkinson have been unexpectedly revived this week, after Ten succeeded in a bid to allow former Seven producer Taylor Auerbach to give evidence.Television news has traditionally been a competitive pursuit, so it's no surprise that two networks have been caught up in the response to one of the biggest criminal allegations in recent Australian history.
At the time, the network said it had no material to produce in relation to communication between Mr Lehrmann and Seven employees.Meanwhile, in his own affidavits filed to the Federal Court, Mr Auerbach said Spotlight staff were directed to "avoid an obvious trail communication" with Mr Lehrmann. "I understood that this meant that I should delete any materials that could be damaging for Seven," Mr Auerbach said in his affidavit.
