Questions over whether Morrison was involved in delaying energy price rise until after election

It was revealed yesterday that at the time of the amendment, Mr Morrison had secretly been sworn in as a second treasurer, without Mr Frydenberg's knowledge. He was also a secret second energy minister.

Mr de Brenni said this secrecy raised questions about whether the usual checks and balances, which are normally a fundamental part of the Westminster system of government, had been circumvented. "Whilst Scott Morrison was asking the Governor-General to make him the minister for everything, Australia's industry and energy minister Angus Taylor was signing new regulations to hide electricity price increases until after the election day," he said."What we know, is that we can't even be sure who the treasurer or industry and energy minister was."

Before the election, Mr Morrison was also saying that electricity prices would skyrocket under Labor if they won at the federal election. This pushed the public notification until after the federal election. The energy department's website states the amendment to "change the date for the [Default Market Offer] determination from 1 May to the first business day after 25 May to provide more time for the AER to include the most recent network costs in the final price determination. This change will ensure greater accuracy in price determinations."

Mr Wood said firstly, the ministers set out “some serious actions” to be taken. “But probably even more importantly … the fact that the ministers on Friday agreed to work together on this transformation plan, by itself I think is a very significant step forward,” he told Sky News Australia. “It won’t be smooth. But you’d have to give credit to Chris Bowen and his energy colleagues that they’ve agreed to do that.”
