In June, more than two dozen USA TODAY Network journalists spent a week reporting in four countries and 30 cities to understand how the U.S. is grappling with an influx of migrants and how policies have put a strain on border cities. We’re four of the reporters from the project. Ask us anything!

Alan Gomez has covered immigration for USA TODAY for the past decade, reporting from Washington, Miami, Latin America and all across the southern border. For this project, he spent a week in southern Arizona and northern Mexico meeting with migrants, Border Patrol agents, anti-immigration groups, pro-immigration groups and others affected by the migrant crisis.

Daniel Gonzalez has covered immigration for The Arizona Republic for the past 17 years. He has reported from all along the U.S.-Mexico border, the interior of Mexico, Guatemala and Europe. For this project, he spent a week in Guatemala and the southern border of Mexico talking to migrants, human rights advocates, government officials, migration experts, police and immigration authorities.

Rick Jervis has covered immigration for USA TODAY from Austin, Texas, for the past four years. He frequently travels to the border, where he has reported from both sides, including trips to Reynosa, Matamoros and Nuevo Laredo. For this project, he reported from McAllen, Texas, visited a migrant shelter in Reynosa and did a ride-along with Border Patrol agents near McAllen. He was also the lead writer on the project.

Rebecca Plevin has covered immigration for The Desert Sun in Palm Springs, part of the USA TODAY Network, for two years. She has reported from California’s Coachella Valley, both sides of the California-Mexico border and the southwestern Mexican state of Guerrero. For this project, she spent a week interviewing migrants and asylum seekers in San Diego and the Mexican border cities of Mexicali and Tijuana.
