Jason Demetriou’s days at South Sydney “are numbered” and short of a miracle turnaround against Cronulla this Saturday, the board will reportedly sack the embattled coach this weekend.
A bombshell report has emerged claiming Jason Demetriou is a dead man walking after key allies gave up on him on the weekend.
The poor loss at home means Demetriou’s side have now won just five of their past 15 games since Round 11 last season when they were top of the ladder. “I just want people to understand we’ve only had five weeks of the season and to judge a coach on five weeks is particularly unfair, but what the Rabbitohs are doing is they’re going back to when they were leading the competition midway through last year, that was 20 games ago and they’ve lost 15 of those matches.“With the roster they have, with Jack Wighton, Cody Walker, Damien Cook, Keaon Koloamatangi, they’re just not aiming up.
“It’s almost an identical situation to Adam O’Brien and Adam O’Brien was gone last year, but with Latrell and his ill-discipline… just cannot get this side to turn up, he’s won five of their last 20,” Rothfield said. Assistant coach Ben Hornby, who is close with Wayne Bennett thanks to their time at the Dragons, is likely to take over if Demetriou is axed.
South Sydney management share that opinion according to the SMH report, which claims they are “starting to realise there is some validity” to the issues Burgess raised.
