AFL: David King shares his first crack on which teams are in the flag race after 7 weeks of the AFL season.

With one-third of the home-and-away season completed, a distinct gap has begun to form in the race for the 2024 premiership.

The Cats, who are remarkably undefeated in 2024, have conquered their two biggest challenges in the last fortnight – beating last year’s grand finalists Brisbane on the road in torrential rain, before knocking off fellow contenders Carlton in a Saturday twilight shootout at the MCG.“Their defensive stuff is absolutely brilliant, their defensive 50 is terrific, their forward 50 is terrific – they’ve got an even spread of contributors,” King added.

“They’re the corridor kings, they’ve got the best attack in the competition – it’s rated number one … they’re in a good space.” A close defeat at the hands of the Cats on Saturday evening no doubt frustrated Blues fans to an extent, but it was a performance that in the big picture should fill them with a mountain of hope.
