Aboriginal players at a suburban Adelaide football club linked to former St Kilda star Robert Muir have slammed a penalty handed down after they were racially abused by opposition supporters.

The league also warned the club that it would face "severe sanctions" should it fail to take action against abuse in the future.

"The FHFC will be delivering cultural awareness training to supporters, members and players, supporting and engaging with the 'Racism. It Stops With Me' campaign and will establish a reconciliation action committee, led by community members, to support a plan to contribute to reconciliation within the local community," he wrote.

"The most devastating part was they sat around the table listing off breaches of the SANFL and AFL racial vilification guidelines and the SFL racial vilification policy and for them to be given a warning for breaching those codes was absolutely disgusting."Satala said the league had set a unsatisfactory precedent for dealing with racial vilification and some players like Ian Milera — who has played for Glenelg in the SANFL — had had enough.

"We're in 2020 — why are we still learning? There's no excuse when it comes to learning for racism anymore. Learning is just another excuse to accept racism," he said.Milera described the day of the game against Flagstaff Hill as "probably one of the worst days I've had in my footy career", and said the league's latest decision was a "slap on the wrist".
