A new report from the Federation of Ethnic Communities' Councils of Australia reveals widespread racism across workplaces, schools, and the legal system, highlighting the need for a comprehensive anti-racism strategy.
Racism in the workplace, legal system and schools is commonplace and systemic according to a new report. Hundreds of everyday Australians have shared tragic personal statements about race-based bullying and alienation. The Federation of Ethnic Communities' Councils is calling on the government and media to take action.
Carlo Carli is the Chairperson of the Federation and says the results show the need for a comprehensive anti-racism strategy has never been stronger. Beyond that, people also shared experiences of systemic racism at health services, schools, and when interacting with police. Sociologist Aaron Teo says many experiences have been driven by recent global events including overseas conflicts and the COVID-19 pandemic.
