Counter-terror police have launched an investigation into the seizure of a nuclear shipment. 7NEWS

reports the nuclear material — which can be used in a “dirty bomb” — arrived on a passenger flight from Oman and was meant for Iranian nationals living in Great Britain.

It arrived in the UK in the hold of an Oman Air passenger jet and was only found when scanner alarms went off as it was being taken to a freight shed by baggage handling firm Swissport.UK border authorities seized the uranium shipment as counter-terrorism teams began investigations into the origin of the package.

While arrests in the case are still yet to be made, UK media reports investigations are focusing on a company based in Iran which also has a UK address, where the shipment was allegedly meant to be sent to.Getty Images “For uranium to turn up on a commercial airliner from Pakistan to an Iranian address in the UK is very suspect,” UK nuclear defence regiment former commander Hamish De Bretton-Gordon told the Sun.

The shipment was discovered on December 29 and authorities said it was “posing no threat to the public”.: “We can confirm officers from the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command were contacted by Border Force colleagues at Heathrow after a very small amount of contaminated material was identified after routine screening withtin a package incoming to the UK on December 29, 2022.
