A radioactive rock was discovered by a teacher at a public high school in Randwick. 7NEWS
The radioactive material was found at Randwick Girls’ High School by a science teacher on 17 August.
The radioactive hazardous material could be dangerous if somebody was exposed to it for 250 hours, the hearing was told. The government told estimates that it was not aware how long the material was present on the school site. 7NEWS understands the discovery prompted the education department to issue a safety alert on Friday, which urged schools to be aware of their responsibilities when it came to hazardous materials.
