Rail chaos will end if workers get pay rise above wages cap, union boss says | Rabe9 & Mattonews
The state’s main rail union says it will drop major industrial action for a month if the NSW government agrees to a pay rise above its cap on public sector wages and signs a deal to modify a new fleet of intercity trains.
In a counter offer sent late Monday, the Rail Tram and Bus Union demanded a pay rise for rail workers at least 0.5 per cent above the public sector wage cap, as well as for the government to sign a deed guaranteeing modifications to the new intercity trains. “But we’ve now drawn a line in the sand – the delegates have had enough. We were just totally frustrated by this government inaction,” he said.
“Every time that we have made concessions to fix that issue [with the new trains], the union has come out and said ‘we’ll move onto something else’,” he said.Perrottet said he believed he was on a “unity ticket” with the NSW Labor opposition over the strikes, which both sides have called to end.Even if the government agrees to the union’s latest demands, it will come too late to avoid severe disruptions to services on Wednesday caused by rail workers refusing to operate foreign-built trains.
