Rail fares to rise by 5.9% in March in biggest increase since 2012 🔴 The increase will come into effect from 5 March 2023, the Department of Transport said
Regulated rail fares in England are set to rise by up to 5.9 per cent next year – the biggest increase since 2012.
Regulated fares, including season tickets, are usually pegged to the retail prices index measure of inflation of July, which was 12.3 per cent this year. But the rise is the biggest since 2012, and comes amid widespread strikes by rail workers and travel chaos for commuters who have been hit with delays and cancellations in recent months.
Train operators set unregulated fares, although their decisions are heavily influenced by the Government due to contracts introduced because of the coronavirus pandemic.
