Rail union accused of ‘political games’ as planned strikes go ahead | Mattonews

Sydney’s train commuters will bear the brunt of major disruptions to key rail lines on Tuesday and Thursday after the main rail union vowed to press ahead with strike action as part of its long-running dispute with the state government over new intercity trains and pay.

Premier Dominic Perrottet accused the unions of “playing political games” with Labor, saying he was sick of commuters being “used as political pawns” in the dispute. “This is just the union, once again, taking action [and] inconveniencing people for their own political benefit,” he said. “It is all about making life extremely difficult for the senior managers and the bureaucrats and the government. It has not been about inconveniencing the public any more than what’s necessary to prove our point,” he said.

“Commuters should avoid any non-essential travel this week. If you must travel on the rail network, please plan your journey in advance,” he said.
