Ramy Youssef animated series ‘1 Happy Family USA’ heads to Amazon with star-studded cast

The show, titled “#1 Happy Family USA,” is expected to premiere in 2024 on Amazon Prime Video, which shared cast news Tuesday.

Youssef, 31, will star alongside Alia Shawkat, Chris Redd, Mandy Moore, Salma Hindy, Randa Jarrar, Whitmer Thomas and Akaash Singh. Variety reports the series, which Youssef co-created with Pam Brady , will center on “the experiences of aas they navigate the early 2000s: a time of fear, war, and the rapid expansion of the boy-band industrial complex.”

Youssef, an executive producer, will play Rumi Hussein, a 12-year-boy. Shawkat voices Mona, his older sister. Youssef also voices Hussein Hussein, the father of the family, described as “a former cardiothoracic surgeon who now runs a halal cart.” Hindy plays Sharia Hussein, Rumi and Mona’s mother, who fixates on the death of Princess Diana. Jarrar plays Rumi and Mona’s grandmother; Moore plays Rumi’s teacher , Mrs.

“#1 Happy Family USA” has a two-season deal at Amazon and is produced by Amazon Studios and A24, the same studio behind “Ramy.”
