The Chief Health Officer has admitted allowing travellers from interstate hotspots to use rapid antigen testing (RAT) as proof for entry into Queensland is an “honesty system”, reminding arrivals making a false declaration is a “criminal offence”.
It comes as the Sunshine State records 1,589 new cases of the coronavirus, taking the total number of active cases to 6,368.
Dr Ryan also revealed the majority of the 93 people currently in hospital with COVID-19 in Queensland were not admitted for treatment for their symptoms associated with the virus. He further confirmed new COVID-19 cases were reported across the state in metropolitan areas as well as in rural and regional areas, with one new infection recorded overnight detected on Thursday Island.
