The Rasmuson Foundation’s board members named Gretchen Guess, a former Alaska legislator and health care executive, as the nonprofit’s new president and CEO this week.
Guess served in the Legislature from 2001 to 2007, first in the state House and then in the Alaska Senate, representing the Anchorage neighborhoods of Fairview, Russian Jack, Northeast Anchorage and Mountain View.
After retiring from the Legislature, she worked for over a decade in health care management, including a stint at Providence Alaska. Born and raised in Alaska, Guess also served on the Anchorage School Board for two years beforeGuess was unanimously approved by board members this week after a monthslong search, and will be the foundation’s second-ever CEO.
The Rasmuson Foundation is one of Alaska’s largest philanthropic organizations. It focuses its funding projects on the arts, health, social services and housing. In 2021, it awarded $36 million in grants to artists and nonprofits. Guess will begin her new role at the end of February, the foundation said. Sammye Pokryfki, the foundation’s former senior vice president, will serve as interim CEO until then.Annie Berman covers health care for the Anchorage Daily News.
