RBA hints at interest rate hike being 'brought forward'

has given its biggest hint yet that borrowers will wear the cost of an interest rate hike sooner rather than later as the economy roars back after COVID-19.

The RBA this month kept the cash rate at 0.1 per cent. Australia's official cash rate has not risen since late 2010. "Our base case remains for a June hike but it could come in May especially if there is another blowout Consumer Price Index next week and the first move could be + 0.4 per cent rather than + 0.15 per cent."Looming interest rate hikes and the soaring cost of living will take some pressure off the housing market.
