'There's a reason why there's a lot of looking back to Watergate right now.'
The comic thriller sees Fitzgerald play White House transcriber Connie who unwittingly ends up with a tape of the infamousreporter called Paul to expose the truth, but can Connie trust anybody?
I think that's what's great about the movie. It's certainly accessible whatever level of knowledge you have about the 18-and-a-half-minute gap. It starts with a basic premise of what most of us know about Watergate, and then goes on its own journey from there. We also had great costumes. All of Sarah's costumes were incredibly period-accurate, down to the undergarments. It was a fun process on set, I think because we were all staying there, and living there, and working together for the days we shot the film. It was like an immersive experience for all of us.
I think that John and I were very much in service of the script. We were able to hold on to each other as we took this wild ride, and I think that that actually worked really well for the story as a whole.Even though this is set 50 years ago, there are still those modern parallels with fake news and the like. Did you feel the same kind of relevance despite the time period?
