NRL: South Sydney Rabbitohs coach Jason Demetriou fronted the media for a mere 30 seconds as the pressure mounts on him to perform.
Chevy Stewart quit school at 17-years old to pursue his NRL dream and on Sunday that gamble will pay off when he runs out at GIO Stadium for his debut.
But it didn’t take long for the club to realise what sort of talent they had coming through the ranks and his development was fast-tracked. “Obviously I had ‘Strangey’ at home, but I kind of just figured it out all myself and it kind of just happened. “I love having the freedom back there and being able to work with the spine and just creating combos and doing our own stuff. It’s good fun,” he said.earlier in the season, Stewart conceded “I’m still establishing myself as a footy player”. He has always been happy to bide his time and learn from the more experienced players around him.
“Yeah, I don’t really care. I’m a big believer in when the time’s right, it’s right. So whenever I get my shot, I’ll be ready 100%,” he said in response. The coach has that same belief. There’s no ducks and drakes with Ricky Stuart. He said during the pre-season that he hopes Stewart will get a taste of the NRL this year and he’s delivering on that.
