Easts coach Ben Batger has shrugged off the criticism of rivals for breaching the Sydney Rugby Union’s player points rules on the way to winning the Shute Shield minor premiership, and a potential drought-breaking premiership in the grand final on Saturday.
Batger, who submits his players’ points to the SRU, said “we got it wrong for one game, so I’ve got to wear that as the coach”.towards Easts, Batger said it was standard for strong clubs. By contrast, grand final rivals Norths only have a few contracted players and have been averaging 45 points all year, according to coach Zak Beer.
“The reality is a lot of those guys have come through our colts program, if you talk about Teddy Wilson, Jack Bowen, Darby Lancaster, Fergus Lee Warner, they’re all East guys,” Batger said.
