Shelter beds aren't the solution for all former residents of Regina's most recent tent encampment, after being displaced from city hall.
“We’re not going to be able to sleep together. That’s not really great, and she’ll have to watch her stuff without me.”
Advocates are often vocal about how emergency shelters imposing a dry intake rule can be a barrier, but Colleen Taylor, who co-ordinates aid through the Regina Anti-Poverty Ministry, said there are more issues.“Sometimes it’s problematic because there’s little privacy and very little security,” she said, clarifying that means feeling one’s person and their belongings are safe from theft or physical harm.
“For some people, rather than sleeping in a shelter with a bunch of strangers right beside you, sleeping in tents is safer,” Taylor said.Article content
