Qantas says the rapid recovery in its domestic operations was being driven by strong demand from holidaymakers and helped by the federal government’s $1.2 billion half-price airfare package, pwhatch reports.

“We’re now seeing really positive signs of sustained recovery,” Qantas chief executive Alan Joyce said.

“This is the longest run of relative stability we’ve had with domestic borders for over a year and it’s reflected in the strong travel demand we saw over Easter and the forward bookings that are flowing in each week from all parts of the market.”Qantas said that it was revising up its estimates for flying in the June quarter from 80 per cent pre-COVID capacity to 90 per cent, with its budget arm Jetstar flying at above 100 per cent - provided there were no further state border closures.

That trend would continue into next financial year, with Qantas “red tail” operations to be at 107 per cent and Jetstar to be flying at 120 per cent, the group said.A concise wrap of the day on the markets, breaking business news and expert opinion delivered to your inbox each afternoon.
