The heartbreaking reason the Princess of Wales' cancer battle was not announced earlier has been revealed

The reason why Kensington Palace said Kate Middleton did not have cancer earlier this year has been revealed. The Princess of Wales has tonight announced that she has been receiving preventative cancer treatment, following abdominal surgery.

Back in January Kensington Palace said Kate did not have cancer. That is because it didn't show up until after her major operation, the Mirror reports. Tests after the operation identified that Kate had cancer and the princess said it has taken her and Prince William time to deliver the news to their children "in a way that is appropriate for them." In the clip, Kate said: "I wanted to take this opportunity to say thank you, personally, for all the wonderful messages of support and for your understanding whilst I have been recovering from surgery.

The princess added that her family have started to process the diagnosis as she was focused on recovering from her recent operation. She has reassured her children that she is "getting stronger every day." She continued: "This of course came as a huge shock, and William and I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family. As you can imagine, this has taken time.
