Treasurer will ‘take on one hand and give with the other’ in budget | Sky News AustraliaJosh Frydenberg will be “taking with one hand and giving with the other” in his forthcoming budget announcement by offsetting cuts to JobKeeper and Jobseeker, according to The Herald Sun’s Terry McCrann.\n\n“He has to be sophisticated in the way he does it, and I think he will be,” Mr McCrann told Sky News.\n\nThe treasurer is planning on focussing on stimulating the economy in his budget announcement, a plan designed to get people back into the workforce through tax cuts and infrastructure spending.\n\nMr McCrann said the treasurer on the one hand will be “stimulating by bringing forward the tax cuts” most likely a corporate tax cut, but he will also be winding back the JobSeeker and Jobkeeper payments.\n\n“So he’s taking with one hand and giving with the other. He needs to be much more focussed where that stimulus goes,” he said.\n\n“And obviously, trying to directly build things in increasing infrastructure spending.\n\n“Continuing the JobKeeper payments and the JobSeeker payments at the very high levels they’ve been to date would be counterproductive because it would actually stop people getting back to work.”\n\n

There are issues in the COVID response ‘which can’t be ignored’ | Sky News AustraliaThere are a number of issues “at the centre of this coronavirus response” which simply can’t be ignored according to Sky News host Alan Jones. \n\n“The two most prominent are, in the first instance, the expectation from governments that we will or should surrender to each and every one of their totalitarian dictates,” he said. \n\nThe second is the “total denial of freedom inherent in all of this”. \n\nMr Jones said for months Australians have been ordered what to do “with not one syllable of evidence that validates the orders”. \n“This betrays every known precept of what is just, which dates back centuries”. \n\nMr Jones also said he is not prepared to accept the total “denial of freedom inherent in all of this”. \n\n“I for one, Alan Jones, am not prepared to accept that because Daniel Andrews says so or Gladys Berejiklian or Annastacia Palaszczuk, or even Scott Morrison – just because they order us, does that mean they are right?”\n\n“Where is the evidence?” \n\n“Why has not one politician told the nation that 99% of cases are mild”. \n

Premier Andrews 'the Houdini' must resign amid latest ADF support revelations | Sky News AustraliaSky News host Peta Credlin says Daniel Andrews 'is Houdini' and if it was any other premier they would have to resign amid the latest revelations to surface showing Prime Minister Scott Morrison had offered the Victorian Premier ADF support. \n\nIt has emerged Prime Minister Scott Morrison pressured Daniel Andrews to accept 1000 Australian Defence Force troops to Victoria in July to help the state fight the deadly second wave of COVID-19, according to a series of letters released through Freedom of Information laws.\n\nThe letters, obtained by Sky News Australia, were sent from Mr Morrison directly to the Victorian Premier and detail the pressure the Prime Minister placed on Mr Andrews to accept Defence Force help.\n\nMs Credlin said the close proximity of the letters sent throughout July to the Victorian Premier shows the “escalation of concern in Canberra” as the coronavirus pandemic continued to take hold. \n\n“It’s also important to note that these letters are quite clear to document what was offered, so that if, and when, there would be an inquiry … that there would be a paper trail that would hold the Victorian government and the premier to account. \n\n“I am very intrigued with how this marries with statement after statement after statement from Daniel Andrews that there was no offer, or the offer isn’t as the prime minister said when it's very clearly legally black and white”. \n

Death of Breonna Taylor used as ‘trojan horse to exploit racial tensions’: Murray | Sky News AustraliaBlack Lives Matter activists and their supporters are using things like the death of Breonna Taylor as a 'trojan horse ... to exploit racial tensions' in the United States and tear the system down, according to Sky News host Paul Murray.\n\nMs Taylor was shot dead by police in Louisville, Kentucky during March when they burst into her apartment using no-knock arrest warrants during a drug raid.\n\nAt the time of her death, Ms Taylor was living in a house with her boyfriend, who pulled a gun and fired at the police when they entered, police fired back and in the crossfire Ms Taylor was killed.\n\n“Today was when we found out exactly what was going to happen to the police officers responsible for her death,” Mr Murray said.\n\n“Now the activists wanted murder charges, but of course basic legal studies would make it understandable that for murder to happen it’s not just that you did it it’s that you meant to do it.\n\n“Ultimately it seems that the responsibility goes back to who shot first.\n\n“This is complicated, it’s lots of grey area I am oversimplifying it to make a point about the reaction to these stories, but instantly the reaction … was obvious.\n\n“But this case in particular is one that politicians want to jump on, and they want to jump on it going into the next American election.”\n\nJust minutes after the verdict saw one of the police officers would not be charged with murder, protests broke out.\n\n“There is a heavy level of organisation about these protests, protests that have been taking place in the United States for a long time,” Mr Murray said.\n\n“Why, because people like Kamala Harris mainstream them. Because companies have mainstreamed BLM.\n\n“They use cases like Breonna Taylor as a trojan horse to get people angry.\n\n“There are those that are trying to exploit the racial tensions of the United States, they are doing so because they want to tear the system down.”\n
