“Anecdotally, what we have seen is less estranged partner violence … what we have seen more of is first-time reporting,” he said.“That’s likely to be a result of pressure on people. Victoria was under lockdown for more than three months of that time to contain the spread of the deadly COVID-19 pandemic.

“During that period there were also over 78,000 calls [to the Police Assistance Line] in relation to breaches of the Chief Health Officer directions,” Mr Nugent said.
