Dean Preston introduced a resolution to condemn Congress' bipartisan 'horrors of socialism' bill.

— a Democratic Socialist himself — responded in kind, introducing a local resolution to condemn Congress' vote as"red-baiting."

In a statement shared with SFGATE, Preston called Congress'"horrors of socialism" measure"a blatant red-baiting overreach" and said,"It is astonishing that anyone who cares about social, economic, and racial justice voted for it. This kind of resolution is something one would expect from McCarthy – not today’s Kevin McCarthy, but Senator Joseph McCarthy of the 1950s.”

Preston's statement continued, in part: “At a time when we should be championing visionary socialist policies – everything from those we have like Social Security to those we need like Medicare for all, social housing, and free public transit – it is disheartening to see so many Democrats joining Republicans to vilify, malign and undermine those on the left."

Preston singled out Pelosi, San Francisco's longtime representative, for siding with congressional Republicans and 108 other Democrats by voting"yes" on a resolution that Republicans"If this resolution would just simply draw out my Democrat colleagues to just say, yes, they are in favor of socialism, maybe this is a worthwhile endeavor," Rep. Patrick McHenry, R-N.C., said in early February.
