Reese Witherspoon is reprising her role as Tracy Flick in a sequel to ‘Election.’
that there was a project she “can’t really talk about” where she’s “reprising a character I played a long time ago.” In the first film, Tracy is plotting to win the vote for student body president despite a dismal approval rating from her fellow classmates and tampering by’s disgruntled social studies teacher. Set roughly 25 years in the future, the sequel sees a middle-aged Flick not living out her political dreams, but languishing as assistant principal at a suburban New Jersey high school.
“I imagine some people will be surprised and some disappointed, and some will want to take issue with it,”in June of the character’s stasis. “I’ve got a friend who insisted she would be a talking head on Fox News. I think there’s a version of Tracy’s life that could have gone that way.” Instead, Perotta opted to capitalize on the realities many ambitious women face. “American culture is very competitive and individualistic, and there’s a Tracy in every high school,” he said.
