Human remains found in Collin County earlier this year belonged to a woman reported missing from Dallas two years ago, officials announced Wednesday.
Mercedes Clement, then 25, was reported missing on Oct. 11, 2020, after she was last seen at an apartment complex in the 2200 block of Empire Central Place, near Harry Hines Boulevard., Clement was last seen alive on surveillance video walking through the complex’s parking lot with a man. The surveillance system “suspiciously glitched” after that, the station reported, and she was never seen or heard from again.
On Feb. 13, the Princeton Police Department found skeletal remains near Lavon Lake in Princeton, roughly 40 miles northeast of Dallas. The Collin County medical examiner’s office traced those remains back to Clement through dental records. Dallas police said they were notified of the identification Monday, and added that while their homicide unit is handling the investigation, the cause and manner of death remain [email protected]“If they know something, just talk, don’t be scared to come forward to give closure,” Clement’s mother, Alicia Gazotti, told KDFW last year. “We deserve closure, we deserve to know, and she deserves it. She was worth that. She’s worth something.
