Using remote cameras, Houston Chronicle photographer Jon Shapley shares his unique views...
, so a key part of the effort involved remote cameras. Some were triggered using a radio remote tethered to the camera. Others cameras closer to the rocket — in the dangerous zone where people couldn't be during the launch — were triggered by the roar of the engines.
Shapley's camera closest to the engines of the Super Heavy rocket, a small GoPro Hero 3+, couldn't be found. Aerial photos appear to show that much of the metal railing that Shapley had attached it to was destroyed. He was not able to access the launch pad. Remote cameras sitting on tripods and covered in plastic can be seen in the foreground of this photo. This is the outermost remote site, not the interior one where many cameras were lost.
