Alfie Colquhoun, nine, has been making chocolate top hats and crispy cakes in an effort to raise money after his mum, Jennifer, was diagnosed with secondary breast cancer.
A schoolboy from Renfrewshire has popped on the oven mitts to raise cash for Cancer Research after his mum was given an incurable diagnosis.
"I then took unwell again in November 2022 and I initially thought it was long-covid related because I was suffering from tiredness and breathlessness. "They've told me there is no cure because it is in my bones, lungs, liver and lymph nodes. They said that it doesn't matter if it was in one place or four places the treatment would be the same.
One day, her youngest decided to raise cash to help those suffering with cancer to battle the deadly disease. The nine-year-old decided to utilise his baking skills as he set himself a lofty target. "People were given him £20 notes it was just amazing. Alfie then decided to set himself the target of £1,000. He started to take cakes into school for the teachers, he made some for the district nurses and I took some into work."
"It is such a big achievement and it all started with him. He has made over 400 top hats. My eldest son has been getting involved by tasting the cakes. He is so proud of his little brother. All I do is melt the chocolate over the hob and leave him to it.
