Commercial tenants seeking rent relief will have to wait a little longer as disagreement within the industry has put a delay on the National Cabinet’s mandatory code of conduct.
The code has been on the agenda for each hook up between the nation’s leaders for the past fortnight but is proving to be a sticky issue for the National Cabinet. NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian on Tuesday insisted the Cabinet was working hard to address the “complex issues”.
"These are very complex issues, but I have every confidence that we will be able to support those affected in the best way we can,” she said. "Please know, nobody, no jurisdiction in Australia is sitting on their hands. We are moving very quickly, very quickly, to ensure we are providing support to those parts of the community that are doing it tough."
