FINAL: Rep. Diana DeGette won a 14th term representing Colorado’s First District in Congress on Tuesday, handily defeating political newcomer Jennifer Qualteri.
Colorado election results:Qualteri previously ran as a write-in candidate for a seat on the University of Colorado Board of Regents in 2016 but lost to Democrat Jack Kroll by 283,236 votes to 623.
The race isn’t expected to be close. The 1st District, which includes Denver and some of its suburbs, leans Democratic by about 29 points, . This means Democrats were expected to receive about 29% more of the vote than in the country as a whole, making the district one of the bluest in the nation and creating an almost insurmountable obstacle for a Republican candidate.
