Chris Stokes/For The Texas Tribunein a bitter midterm battle Tuesday night, the Laredo Democrat's campaign took one last parting shot at Republican challenger Cassy Garcia in a race that had grown increasingly hostile in its final days.
Cuellar won the race by more than 13 percentage points, despite heavy spending by Garcia and national Republicans, who saw it as one of several in South Texas primed to flip. It was the end of a contentious midterm election that grew increasingly heated in the final stretch, with the two candidates sniping at one another online. In the final days, Garcia tweeted Cuellar was having a"meltdown" and the Laredo Democrat repeatedly told the GOP challenger to"Get help!"
