The Australian Transport Safety Bureau calls for vigilance, publishing a report into an incident in which a strap was left on the propeller of a plane that took off from Canberra Airport, damaging the aircraft and injuring a passenger, in 2022.
The Australian Transport Safety Bureau has recommended stricter safety procedures be implemented as a result of an incident in 2022 when
ATSB Chief Commissioner Angus Mitchell said the incident would almost certainly have been prevented if an extension had have been fitted to the safety strap when the plane was parked on the ground. Guidance provided by Link Airways for training of Swissport ground dispatchers did not explain the appearance, function and importance of the propeller straps.
