San Jose State University Police Chief Mike Carroll said at a Wednesday afternoon press conference that the woman in a restroom at a San Jose State University library was not armed and had a replica gun, according to KTVU.A library at San Jose State University was evacuated Wednesday after a witness reported that an armed woman was in the restroom, officials said.

Michelle Smith McDonald, a spokesperson for the university, said the witness told a security at 10:10 a.m. about the potential situation in the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Library. "It hasn't been confirmed that there’s an armed individual, but we believe that's the case based on witness statement," McDonald told SFGATE on the phone."No contact has been made with the person."

University staff and some members of the public were evacuated from the library, which is a shared facility with the city. McDonald said there were no students in the library, as the school is on holiday break.
