The Republican Party’s national convention kicks off on Monday (US time), where the party will hold a days-long coronation to formalise the nomination of Donald Trump.
Donald Trump is not due to speak today, but he will soon be on his way to talk later in the week.“Based on yesterday’s terrible events, I was going to delay my trip to Wisconsin, and The Republican National Convention, by two days, but have just decided that I cannot allow a ‘shooter,’ or potential assassin, to force change to scheduling, or anything else,” Trump wrote in a social media post.
Contenders who to be Trump’s vice-presidential nominee, including North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum and senator Marco Rubio, will speak over the week.Right-wing TV personality Tucker Carlson has a speaking slot, as do country music stars Lee Greenwood and Chris Janson, along with rapper Amber Rose.Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is scheduled to speak, as is Nikki Haley, who took on Trump in the primary race to become the Republican candidate.
